Thursday and Friday's games

Thursday's game was a horrible time, we won't talk about it other than to say we lost.

Friday we did have a good game though. We were the visitors in our least favorite town, Boyd. I absolutely can't stand Boyd. They cheat, have bad attitudes, scream at their kids and the crowd is sorry too. You can throw Bridgeport in that mix as well. That's who we played Thursday and they were horrible.

OK, 1st inning and we are up to bat. Dawn lead us off with a single, stole second and third. Brianna came to the plate, took the first 2 while Dawn was stealing her bases, then belted the third pitch to score Dawn from third. Brianna stole second and third and was caught stealing home for our first out of the inning. Kristina walked, stole second and third, then was also caught stealing home. 2 outs. Haley walked and Alexis struck out to end the inning. Oh hell, we only scored one run. This backstop was too close to steal on a good catcher, and I didn't learn my lesson the first time.

Haley was pitching again, and I walked her out to the mound and said. "I screwed up again, I need a little help." Haley smiled, said "No problem, help me fill in this crater on the pitcher's mound, so I don't fall in and everything will be OK." We got the hole filled in, so she could pitch comfortably, and she faced three batters, threw ten pitches, 9 strikes and 1 ball, for 3 strikeouts in the first inning. Coming off the field, she asked, "How's that coach?". To reply to my little smartalec, I said, "That was fine, maybe you should try it more often." Score: Decatur 1 Boyd 0

On to the second. Still not having learned my lesson, I got the first and third out of the inning by sending runners home when I should have had them holding up. But here's how it went. Shelbie came up and hit a single. Gabby came to the plate and walked, while Shelbie was stealing second, third and being caught stealing home. Gabby stole second and barely stole third before Jaclyn knocked her in with a single up the middle. Letty was called out on an infield fly rule. So 2 outs and only one run in. Natalie came up, and after Jaclyn stole third base, singled her in. Natalie came to third when Dawn came up and blasted a double. Brianna dribbled a single that Natalie was able to get the catcher not to throw to first by faking a run to the plate. Then Natalie was caught stealing home while Kristina was at bat. So 2 runs on the inning, we led 3-0.

Boyd came to bat in the second, and the first batter singled, and the second struck out. Then there was a walk, another walk, then a 4 run homerun. I believe that these are called grand slams. The next batter flew out to Jaclyn at short stop, and the final batter was another victim of a Haley Denard K, or a strikeout. So, after 2 innings Decatur 3 Boyd 4.

In the dugout, before we batted in the third inning, I told the girls that I absolutely had to have 5 runs, but I wanted 6. So, Kristina singled, then scored on a triple by Haley. Then there were 5 straight walks. So, we had 4 runs in and no outs. Natalie at the plate with the bases loaded. She got a hit, that plated 3 runs, but made an out. Oh well, we scored 7 runs before we made one out. We can only score 6 runs per inning, so we were set, it was all we could do. Decatur 9 Boyd 4.

Haley came out the next inning and struck out the first batter. THEN, she gave up 3 singles and 2 doubles back to back to back to back to back, allowing Boyd to score 4 runs. Then, with a little help from her friends, we got the last two girls out at first base. Decatur 9 Boyd 8.

Top of the fourth inning, we needed 5 runs to insure at least a tie, and 6 to guarantee a victory. Brianna walked, stole second and third before Kristina singled her home. Kris stole second and was tagged out trying to steal third. Haley and Alexis walked and stole to second and third before Shelbie knocked them both in, but was put out at first in the process. 2 outs 3 runs. Gabby walked and Jac doubled her in for our fourth run of the inning. Then Letty hit a ball hard that got Jac caught at third for our third out of the inning. Decatur 13 Boyd 8. They still have a chance.

Boyd came to the plate in the fourth inning determined to make something happen. So, the first batter struck out looking. One down. The second batter was out at first on a batted ball to Jaclyn at second base. She gunned her down. 2 outs. Next came a double, a steal then a score on a sure out. The girl hit it to Jac at second base, who fumbled the ball around a bit. I was yelling "You still have time", and she overthrew Dawn at first base, and the girl ran all the way to third.
She then stole home, before we were able to get the next batter out. She hit a ball to Gabby in right field, and Gabby threw her out at first.

Saturday's games were cancelled, but we play again Tuesday at 6:00 in Decatur.
